“An unexpected look at a largely unaddressed immigrant community in Rome, “Licu’s Holiday” subtly balances critical fascination with a more objective take on its subject’s struggle to keep one foot in Bengali tradition and the other in Western mode” Jay Weissberg (Variety)

Synopsis: Licu is a Bangladeshi who enjoys the trappings of Italian life, especially the flashy clothes. When his mother finds him a bride, he arranges for a vacation — four weeks — to go to his ancestral village and marry the family’s choice. Time is tight, especially when negotiations break down, but soon all is righted and Licu weds beautiful, bashful Fancy Khanam. Back in Rome, however, rules are different, and the superficially Western-looking Licu restricts his wife’s outings, struggling to reconcile European urges with an ingrained sense of a traditional bride’s circumscribed role. Video and sound quality are mixed
